WESM Counseling Department

Welcome to Westchester Enriched Sciences Magnets Counseling Department.

Our Counseling Staff at WESM works as a cohesive team to ensure that all students have a safe learning environment where they can make positive  decisions about academics, personal/social development, and career opportunities. We also work with students to ensure that they are scheduled in the correct classes, meeting A-G requirement, and access intervention opportunities.

WESM counseling and intervention services include After School tutoring programs, Four year Individual Graduation Plans (IGP), parent education workshops, college presentations, PSAT workshops, SAT & ACT prep programs, Financial Aid workshops, Individual Educational Plans (IEP), 504 plans, Crisis Team meetings, Cost Meeting, Healthy Start program,  Parent Teacher Conferences, and at risk individual and group counseling.

Each counselor works closely with the college counselor to ensure that students are able to get the information needed to apply to college.  The college office holds many resource materials for students and parents including information regarding ACT and SAT testing, testing fee waivers, Financial Aid and the college application process.  We ask that all students visit the college center as often as possible to stay informed of all up coming events, workshops and presentations.

If you would like to meet with a counselor, we ask that you call in advance and make an appointment before coming, as this will result in the counselor being prepared to see you and avoid long waits in the office.

Our counseling staff consist of 4 highly trained individuals.

Graduation Requirements

To ensure all LAUSD graduates have the option to enroll directly into a university and be prepared for a career, the District has implemented a College and Career Readiness through A-G initiative. LAUSD has aligned its graduation requirements with the California State University (CSU) A-G requirements, beginning with the graduating class of 2016. Students must earn a grade of "D" or better in "A-G" courses, and meet California Department of Education Requirements in addition to satisfying LAUSD additional requirements for graduation. We are making the high school diploma a document that gives students the choice to transition straight into a college or into a career.
