Our Robotics Team
Four years ago, Westchester seniors established the Robotics club and recruited a mix of students to participate. That year, the team made it to the Long Beach FIRST Robotics Competition as a first-year, rookie team. Working through new experiences and many disasters, such as broken parts, the team was able to rank in the top third of the teams competing in the Long Beach Arena.
For the next three years, we have gone through new sponsors, mentors, and leadership. This year, we made enough funding to compete in the competition again!
This year was an extreme success for the team, we were one of the few teams to still compete in the end of the tournament. We were not chosen for the regional rounds, however we ranked highly in the Arena competition.
We hope to be able to rank higher next year with our newer students!
We are the robotics team at the Westchester Enriched Sciences Magnets in Los Angeles. In our first year as a club, we competed in the FIRST Robotics Competition held in Long Beach. We are pleased to report that we placed 21st out of the 65 teams. That year, we had a personal sponsor, who covered all of our expenses. This year, as well as last year, we do not.
Through fundraisers we have been able to raise enough money to compete in the smaller VEX Robotics Competitions but our ultimate goal is to be able to raise enough money to compete in FIRST Robotics again. As a team that consists of students from a variety of different backgrounds and also a large number of females, we are very unique and are growing in new and exciting ways. We are looking for partners that can help us meet our goals.
For the 2015/16 academic year, we plan to compete in more competitions, including VEX and FIRST again. As of right now, we do not have the funds to participate in either of these competitions, so we would appreciate all the help we could get in order to be able to afford the $5000 registration fee for the FIRST competition.
We are asking if you are willing to sponsor us or provide any assistance to our team. We hope you will consider joining us on our journey as we build a championship-worthy robotics team.
