Cessna Airplane Donated to WESM

Thanks to the generous donation of a Westchester community member, our Aviation & Aerospace Magnet will house a working Cessna aircraft! Students in our auto shop classes will now have the opportunity to work on an actual airplane.

Gifted and High Honors Magnet

Program Description

Students in the Gifted and High Honors Magnet will engage in a rigorous curriculum so that they can connect abstract scientific learning to the applied sciences. In Westchester, we are surrounded by the aviation and aerospace industries, with LAX and countless aerospace companies in our immediate vicinity. This provides a wealth of internship and job shadowing opportunities, including an annual field trip to our local Boeing plant, where students build functioning model rockets alongside actual Boeing engineers.

Electives & Advanced Courses

Students will have access to an extensive array of A-G courses, including thematically-aligned courses related to aerospace and aviation. Auto shop classes will give students hands-on experience learning the principles of engineering that are the foundation of the aerospace industry. Art classes will offer opportunities for students to design aircraft and spacecraft. Through courses like AP Physics, students will learn advanced scientific principles, preparing them for careers in the aerospace and aviation industries.
