Autism Workshop Series
This workshop series consists of five 2-hour sessions: 9/29, 10/6, 10/20, 11/3, 12/1
Session I: Evidence-Based Practices for Autism Spectrum Disorder
This workshop will provide information and process of how to begin to implement some of the 27 evidence based practices (EBPs) at home, school and across other settings for children, youth, and young adults with ASD recommended by the National Professional Development Center on ASD.
Session II: Behavior Acquisition to Increase Independence
This workshop will address the WHYs of behavior and provide strategies for the teaching and learning of replacement behavior.
Session III: Strategies for Supporting Communication
This workshop will address two aspects of ASD: language and communication characteristics, focusing on the development and differences, and providing some guidance on solutions to improve functioning at home, and in school and in the community.
Session IV: Understanding the Learning Process of Social Communication
This workshop will address the core areas of impairment that impact an individual with ASD for successful social communication. It will also provide practical strategies for families to use to help improve their children skills in social communication.
Session V: Understanding High-Functioning Autism (HFA)
This workshop will give an overview of HFA and core areas of impairment. It will also address six areas corresponding to the core impairments: social relationships, communication, imagination/rigidity, sensory/motor difficulties, and work skills. For each area there will be guidance on solutions to improve functioning at home, in school and in the community.
